Terms of Service
By commissioning work from Articulate, joining a class, or using this website, you agree to the terms below. No surprises, no fine print tricks — just what keeps things fair on both sides.
1. Scope of Work
Before any commission begins, we’ll agree a written scope — the piece, the surface, the dimensions, the timeline and the price. That usually arrives as a quote plus a signed-off sketch.
If the scope changes once we’ve started — a second wall, extra portraits, a different substrate — we’ll re-quote it and confirm with you before carrying on. We won’t surprise you with new costs.
2. Payment Terms
Standard commission terms are a third to hold the dates, a third when the sketch is approved, and the balance on completion, unless we’ve agreed something different in writing. Class terms are paid in full at booking.
Finished work is released, delivered or hung once the final payment has cleared. Payments more than 7 days late may pause the schedule. We accept bank transfer, card, and cash at the studio.
3. Revisions
Every commission includes three concept rounds at the sketch stage, and one round of adjustments once the piece is finished.
Revisions are meant to refine, not restart. If your feedback changes direction after a sketch has been signed off, we may quote the extra work. We’ll always tell you before anything is billed.
4. Timelines & Weather
We’ll set a clear schedule and hold to it, assuming approvals, access and site conditions arrive on time. Exterior work is weather-dependent: rain, frost and damp masonry will move dates, and we won’t paint through them just to hit a deadline.
If we can’t reach you for more than 14 days mid-commission, we’ll pause the work. Rebooking your slot may carry a fee if the calendar has moved on.
5. Ownership & Rights
Once the final payment is received, the finished piece is yours.
You own the artwork itself — the mural, the canvas, the boards. We keep copyright in the original designs and drawings, and the right to photograph and show non-confidential finished work in our portfolio, at exhibitions and on social media, unless you tell us otherwise in writing before we start.
6. Communication
Most of a commission is settled in person: a site visit, a sketch review, and photographs at the end of every painting day. Between those, email and the phone are plenty.
We aim to reply to all messages within 24–48 hours on weekdays. If something is urgent, call the studio rather than emailing it.
7. Cancellations
You can cancel a commission at any time. If you do, you’ll be invoiced for the work completed to that point, including preparation and sketches.
A deposit holds a specific slot in the calendar. Cancelling inside two weeks of a start date means the deposit is not refundable, because that time can rarely be filled. Class fees are refundable up to 7 days before a term begins.
8. Liability
We guarantee the work as described in the agreed scope, and we carry public liability insurance for all on-site painting. We are not liable for indirect damages, for pre-existing defects in a wall or building, or for damage caused later by third parties, by weather beyond the sealed lifespan, or by building works.
We prepare, paint and seal everything in good faith and with professional care.
9. Confidentiality
Anything you share with us — photographs, family history, floor plans, unreleased branding — stays private. We don’t share it, reuse it, or discuss it without your permission.
If you’d like to sign a mutual NDA before we start, we’re happy to do so.
10. Showing the Work
We like to show the work we’re proud of. Unless we’ve agreed otherwise, we may photograph a finished piece and display it in our portfolio, journal, exhibitions and social channels.
If a piece is private or sensitive — a memorial portrait, an unannounced fit-out — tell us upfront and it stays out of all of it.
